Being a professional outdoor lighting company, we install landscape lighting systems day after day. Some installations require only a small number of lights to make an area look amazing, other jobs require various techniques, lighting fixtures and beam spreads. And then there are the installs that are truly unique. Just last week we finished installing an outdoor lighting system that was as distinctive as the home itself.
We were called by our clients who lived in a remote home on Lake Greenwood. The deeply wooded lot with a gorgeous view of the lake is surrounded by nature everywhere you look. The lakefront home sits back from the road, accessible by the 700 foot long driveway surrounded by Belgium pavers guiding you up to the circular drive. The architectural details of the home itself were almost crying out to be shown off, creating even more curb appeal. As magnificent as this home was during the day, it was completely lost at night because of its exceptional remoteness. There was literally no outside lighting around the home. A blank canvas like this is gives us a lot of room to be creative with our lighting techniques.
As with several of our clients, we designed a custom outdoor lighting plan that could be installed in phases. The first phase included lighting the front of the home and trees around the circular drive with 30 LED outdoor lighting fixtures. On the home, we used uplighting to dramatically illuminate the textures of the stone work, the peaks of the roofline and the dimension of the home itself. For the trees surrounding the home, we also used uplighting to illuminate the trunks of the trees all the way up the canopy while also defining the area around the home. The trees within the island of the circular drive were lit with a technique we call moonlighting. Moonlighting is essentially down lighting and can be very effective when used in the right situations. With this technique, we install our lighting fixtures up in a tree or other structure to cast light down, in this case, on their circular drive. Moonlighting can create enticing shadowing along the ground while providing additional light for safety and security.
One of the greatest advantages for our client was using our advanced technology LED outdoor lighting fixtures. They are not only more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, the bulbs themselves last up 10 times longer than halogen bulbs, or up to 25 years, also saving on maintenance costs. People are often surprised by how visually pleasing our outdoor LED fixtures are. The color temperature (based on the Kelvin Color Temperature scale) of our LEDs fall in the same range as natural, noonday sun lighting, giving our lighting a realistic look. You will not get the bluish, unnatural tint that is present in cheaper LED fixtures you may find on the market. In fact, most people cannot tell a difference between our LED outdoor lighting fixtures compared to a typical halogen system. With all the other benefits of LED, it is the best choice for most people.
Think about bringing your home and outdoor living spaces to life at night with a LED outdoor lighting system. We will custom design an outdoor lighting plan that will have you falling in love with your home again, just as our lakefront property homeowners have.
